NonWoven Geotextile Fabrics

NonWoven Geotextiles are most manufactured with what's called a "needle-punched" process, using barbed needles to create a felt-like permeable geotextile fabric. Rather than weaving together fabric on a loom, nonwoven geotextiles are manufactured by bonding materials together, either through chemical or heat, needle punching or other methods. They are made of synthetics and most often used in filter or separation applications. NonWoven Geotextile Fabrics have a felt-like consistency engineered for strength and water flow. Made in several different weights and filtration levels, these geotextiles are an ideal solution for separation, drainage, sediment control, cushioning, and various construction and road repair applications. NonWoven Fabrics are high in resistance to UV rays, rot, and degradation.

Nonwoven Geotextile types and uses

Geotextiles are made up of polymers such as polyester or polypropylene. They are divided into 3 categories on the basis of the way they are prepared :

Woven Fabric Geotextiles

Non-Woven Geotextiles

Knitted Geotextiles

01.

Woven Fabric Geotextile

Commonly found geotextiles are of the woven type and are manufactured by adopting the techniques which are similar to weaving usual clothing textiles. This type has the characteristic appearance of two sets of parallel threads or yarns. The yarn running along the length is called warp and the one perpendicular is called weft.

02.

Non-Woven Geotextile

Non-woven geotextiles are manufactured from either continuous filament yarn or short staple fiber. The bonding of fibers is done using thermal, chemical or mechanical techniques or a combination of techniques.

03.

Knitted Geotextile

Knitted geotextiles are manufactured by the process of interlocking a series of loops of yarn together. All of the knitted geosynthetics are formed by using the knitting technique in conjunction with some other method of geosynthetics manufacture, such as weaving.

04.

Nonwoven Geotextile Application

Nonwoven geotextiles are the best solution when you need permeability and soil separation. They are also the perfect solution if you are working on a project that requires drainage. While it may not be as strong as a woven geotextile, it is an excellent choice for specific projects. Therefore, when working on a project, you should know what geotextile will suit the project.

Features of Nonwoven Geotextile

In the Non Woven Geotextile Fabric, no weaving or manual construction is involved.

These fabrics come with various usages, such as stretch, liquid repellence, thermal insulation.

They have the quality to act as a bacterial barrier.

They are strong and can turn to be stronger than woven geotextile with an additional support backing.

They are available at cost-effective rates because their fabrics are less expensive

Since non-woven geotextile fabrics are reinforced by thread crossing thread, they work as a strong barrier.

Non woven Geotextile fabrics come with higher flow rates and permittivity

FAQ

Q: What is the purpose of geotextile?

A: Geotextiles are those fabrics used in geotechnical applications, such as road and railway embankments, earth dikes, and coastal protection structures, designed to perform one or more basic functions such as filtration, drainage, separation of soil layers, reinforcement, or stabilisation.

Q: Is geotextile the same as landscape fabric?

A: Geotextiles and landscape fabric may look similar but they are entirely different products. It's essential to know the difference so you can make the right choice for your outdoor space.

Q: Does water drain through geotextile?

A: Needlepunched and poly-spun varieties of nonwoven geotextile fabric allow water to easily flow through and are both sturdy and versatile for landscaping drainage. The non-woven geotextile fabric is most commonly used as a landscape material to support adequate drainage, filtration, and ground stabilization.

Q: How long does geotextile last?

A: When designed, installed and maintained in accordance with the published literature most TERRAM geotextiles are sufficiently durable to achieve a design life of at least 100 years in most typical soil conditions.

Q: Is geotextile fabric worth it?

A: This is a critical factor because geotextiles can extend the lifetime of roadways and railways. Geotextile fabric will improve the lifetime of a retaining wall by allowing liquids and gasses to pass through it. This will reduce the impact that otherwise could impact the wall.

Q: Can you overlap geotextile fabric?

A: The geotextile is usually laid in the direction of construction traffic; however, specific project dimensions may alter this layout. Geotextile panels should be overlapped both side-to-side and end-to-end, in the direction of aggregate placement.

Q: Which is better woven or nonwoven geotextile?

A: Nonwoven geotextiles are the best solution when you need permeability and soil separation. They are also the perfect solution if you are working on a project that requires drainage. While it may not be as strong as a woven geotextile, it is an excellent choice for specific projects.

Q: Can water pass through geotextile fabric?

A: When a geotextile membrane is used, water passes through the membrane, but any other debris or larger particles are prevented from entering the drainage system.

Q: Does geotextile hold water?

A: Geotextile fabric provides an ideal solution to waterproofing projects because it is highly durable and water-resistant. Not only does it keep water out, but it also allows air and moisture to penetrate into the walls and surfaces of buildings, helping prevent mold and mildew buildup.

Q: Do I need geotextile under gravel?

A: Geotextile fabric offers high tensile strength so the fabric will stabilize the first layer of gravel that sits on top of it. In turn, it reinforces the entire structure of the gravel layers. Without the use of landscape fabric, over time, the first rock layer will sink into the ground.
